Solar Fridge Campaign

Drug and Medication Storage

Project Background

When founder Pravith Munipalle was younger, he spent many summer working at his grandfather's rural clinic. Oftentimes, the clinic couldn't probabaly refigerate the medications it dispensed. The truth is, many rural regions lack reliable electricity, making it difficult to store temperature-sensitive medications such as insulin, vaccines, and antibiotics. In these areas, the absence of proper refrigeration can result in spoiled medicines, jeopardizing lives and public health. With the growing availability of compact, solar-powered refrigeration units, it is now possible to bridge this gap using sustainable technology. This campaign was born out of the urgent need to deliver equitable healthcare infrastructure to vulnerable populations, especially in areas where energy poverty is common.

The Solar Fridge Campaign aims to deploy 300 portable solar-powered refrigerators to rural clinics and underserved communities, ensuring safe storage of life-saving medicines and vaccines. By harnessing renewable energy, the initiative addresses healthcare access gaps in off grid areas.

Objectives

  • Ensure access to safe medication storage in remote, electricity-scarce areas.

  • Distribute 100 solar-powered refrigerators to clinics, health posts, and community leaders.

  • Improve health outcomes by reducing the spoilage of essential medicines.

  • Promote renewable energy solutions for sustainable healthcare delivery.
